Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is a Joyful and Playful Return to Form

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is a Welcome Return

The fourth installment in the Beverly Hills Cop series, released more than 30 years after the third, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F sees Eddie Murphy reprise his iconic role as Axel Foley. The film follows Foley as he returns to Beverly Hills after his daughter's life is threatened. He teams up with her ex-boyfriend and his old pals John Taggart (Judge Reinhold) and Billy Rosewood (John Ashton) to investigate the threat and bring the perpetrators to justice.

A Buoyant and Playful Sequel

From the beginning, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is buoyant and playful in a way that legacy sequels usually aren't allowed to be. The film is full of the same humor and action that made the original films so popular, but it also has a surprising amount of heart. Murphy is clearly having a ball as Foley, and his joy is infectious. He is ably supported by Reinhold and Ashton, who reprise their roles with ease. Newcomers Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon also deliver strong performances, adding to the film's overall appeal.
