International Friendship Day: Celebrating the Power of Connection

A Global Initiative Fostering Bonds

The International Friendship Day (IFD), celebrated annually on July 30th, has emerged as a global initiative to honor the significance of friendship, a cornerstone of human society. The concept dates back to 1958 when the World Friendship Crusade, founded by Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho, proposed the idea of a day dedicated to promoting friendship among nations.

UNESCO's Role in Establishing IFD

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) played a pivotal role in the establishment of IFD. In 2011, the organization's General Assembly adopted a resolution officially recognizing the day and declaring July 30th as International Friendship Day.

Importance of Friendship for Global Harmony

Friendship transcends cultural and geographical boundaries, fostering understanding, coopération, and peace. It provides a sense of belonging, support, and joy, enriching individuals' lives and strengthening communities. By celebrating IFD, we recognize the immense value of friendship in shaping a more inclusive and harmonious world.
